Africans Take Centre Stage In UCL

African stars took the
centre stage yesterday and again, today as the UEFA Champions League group stage resumes.
Yesterday,  CSKA Moscow hosted Manchester City in a Group E match. Super Eagles striker Ahmed Musa  featured for the bottom-placed Russian club, while Cote d’Ivoire midfielder Yaya Toure made the starting XI for third-positioned City.
Still in Group E, second-placed Roma  hosted  leaders Bayern Munich in the Italian capital. Cote d’Ivoire striker Gervinho  played  after sitting out last Saturday’s 3-0 Serie A win over Chievo in what was his first day back on club duty after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
German side Schalke were also at home, where they hosted Sporting Lisbon in a Group G tie. Schalke  expected to have  lined up their African stars, namely Super Eagles striker Chinedu Obasi, Black Stars midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng and including the Cameroonian duo of Joel Matip and Eric Choupo-Moting.
In Group H, Porto hosted Atletico Bilbao in an Iberian derby in Lisbon.  Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar and Algerian midfielder Yacine Brahimi, who is in red hot form with three goals from two games for Porto were on duty.
Meanwhile, today, look out for Gabon striker Pierre Aubameyang, who is expected to feature for Borussia Dortmund’s away Group D fixture in Turkey against Galatasaray.
