Director, Technical
and Management, Ondo State Football Agency, Mike Idoko, has hailed the Super Falcons of Nigeria for winning the 2014 African Women Football Championship (AWC) in Windoek, Namibia.
Idoko, in an interview with  newsmen in Akure, said the national female soccer team showed a lot of brilliance in its performance in the tournament, which made it to lift the trophy for the seventh time.
First half strikes by Desire Oparanozie in the 13th minute and Asisat Oshoala in the 43rd minute sealed the victory against the Les Lionnes of Cameroon in the Saturday finals.
Idoko urged the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to keep the players together and arrange friendly matches for the team as part of its preparation towards 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup competition in Canada.
He said that the girls must be encouraged to continue what they had started and go to Canada to show why they had been dominating women’s football in Africa.
“I am happy that we won the African Women Championship on Saturday and I am impressed with the performance of the girls.
“I think the girls should be kept together with little additions and subtractions made in the team.
“The World Cup in Canada is around the corner, so, I want us to start preparing towards it by playing friendly matches,” he said.
Cote d’Ivoire’s female national team defeated their South African counterpart 1-0 in the third-place match also decided on Saturday.
With the results, Nigeria, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire will represent Africa at the 2015 women’s World Cup.
