Former Head of State and presidential hopeful in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s elections, Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to vote out the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) from power.
He made the call during a visit to Rivers State at Government House yesterday in Port Harcourt.
The visit is part of Buhari’s mobilization across the country ahead his declaration of interest to run for the presidency in next year’s elections.
He had earlier visited Lagos, Osun and Ilorin.
Received by Chairman of Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF) and Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi and other party big wigs, Buhari declared that, “next year is going to be a watershed in this country because the PDP has messed itself “.
Insisting that, “we cannot afford to lose next year’s elections. It’s total mobilization or we are going under.”
Expressing happiness for the huge party mobilization and registration in the state, Buhari tasked the people to get their permanent voters card which he said is one weapon to get the ruling party out of power.
Buhari however admitted that democracy still holds hope for Nigeria saying the beauty of governance is through a multi- party system, but lamented that the current leaders have displayed selfishness and individualistic enrichment at the expense of the masses.
The former Head of State commended Governor Amaechi for his courage and tenacity in leading the state in the face of federal oppression,” I am disturbed over what is happening between the Rivers State Government and the centre, but I admire his courage, the way he controls and maintains control.”
Also speaking, APC chieftain, Chief Audu Ogbeh praised Governor Amaechi’s steadfastness and those who stood behind him.
The Benue born opposition leader said, “if we carry on the old way then we have no future”.
Ogbeh said providing employment for the country’s teeming youth population was the way to go and that the party was ready to exploit any avenue to reduce insecurity in the nation.
Former governor of Benue State and Minority Leader in the Senate, Mr George Akume stated that the party has a huge task ahead, but that Buhari remains the party’s ace to next year’s elections considering his records.
Meanwhile, Governor Chibuike Amaechi has described the APC as the cure to the many troubles of the country.
“The metaphor of APC is the metaphor of healing,”Amaechi remarked, ‘ whenever we have headache back then, APC found a solution to our problems.”
The NGF chairman submitted that Nigeria’s greatest problem now is corruption and the only way to reduce the menace is to vote a leader who has clean records as Buhari.
Amaechi lauded the former head of state for taking time to visit and confer with party members in various states ahead of the elections and assured him that, “I think before the elections, the whole country will get to know about you the more, as a true nationalist.”
