‘2015: Expect Political Change In Nigeria’ …Rivers APC Has Disproved Jonathan
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi says Nigeria is at the brink of change come 2015.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State Mega Rally and special accountability forum to mark the seven years of his administration at the new Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium at Greater Port Harcourt on Saturday, Amaechi emphasized that the 2015 elections will lead to power change in the country.
He urged party faithful to buckle up, “They can go to Jerusalem 50 times God has decided what will happen in Nigeria in 2015; change for good or change for bad, but there will be change in 2015.
Amaechi reiterated that the struggle to fight for the rights of the people remain a quest he will pursue to victory recalling that the verdict of the Supreme Court which brought him to power on October 25th,2007 was divine hence he is not afraid of the ploy to remove him from office.
Since the inception of his administration, the governor said the state has witnessed huge transformation in terms of projects covering roads, schools, hospitals, power and agriculture.
”Now you will ask what have we achieved…We have built 20 classroom blocks and 500 of them are ready. They used to build six classrooms. Now if you divide that by three then we have done more than 1,500 classrooms. We have built over 140 health centres. We employed 13,200 teachers. We employed 100 doctors and pharmacists. We created farms, so that our children can get employment. We created the farm at Songhai, Banana farm at Tai. We resuscitated Risonpalm that has taken 5000 persons. We developed 715 megawatts of power, but the problem is federal government not allowing us to distribute.”
Amaechi used the rally to thank Rivers people, House members in the State and National Assemblies for standing by him assuring that, “I have no choice than to deliver on my promise. I assure you that is the pact I have with you.”
He also accused the federal government of frustrating plans by the State Government to provide water to the citizenry.
Amaechi revealed that the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Finance,Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala has failed to send the World Bank approved water loan to the Federal Executive Council for approval.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Amaechi has challenged the opposition to a contest of integrity and performance, especially those aspiring to succeed him and those seeking re-election in next year’s elections.
He urged Rivers people to resist such persons, “After stealing government money you betray the people because you want to be governor. They will get nowhere. Before I became governor I wept and fasted for more than 10 months so let them start. They have the president, they have the army, they have the police, but they don’t have God.”
Amaechi also urged Rivers people to use their votes against any candidate with questionable character.
Meanwhile, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Chief John Oyegun says the Mega Rally held by the party at the new Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Greater Port Harcourt at the weekend has proved that it’s not a party on bill boards.
President Jonathan had at the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria( TAN) rally in Benin two weeks ago claimed that APC in Rivers State exists only on billboards.
” We have seen and fulfilled with what we have seen that APC is in charge of Rivers State,” Oyegun declared at the rally which had the likes of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Nda Isaiah, Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso of Kano, Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in attendance.
Chief Oyegun promised that once the party clinches power next year, it will guarantee security and better life for Nigerians.
The same view was canvassed by Gen. Buhari who is one of the party’s presidential hopeful in next year’s elections stressing that the coming together of the progressives was to make the country better.
The former Head of State congratulated Governor Amaechi for the giant strides he has made in Rivers State. On his part, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar said since his first visit to Rivers State in 1985 he has not seen the kind of transformation the state has undergone in the past seven years.
He charged the people to vote for APC to maintain such development.Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwakwanso said of Amaechi, “ We are very much aware of the relationship between the Niger Delta and the North and Amaechi promoted the cordial relationship.
”Commending the governor for the good works he has done in the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha said, “ today we have seen the sign of change. Today my eyes have seen the good works of good gentleman.
”The Imo state governor stated that the vision of the APC is to project the best candidate not driven by religious or ethnic interests but to move the nation forward.Mr Ndah Isaiah on his part thanked God for Rivers State and expressed the hope that other states will emulate the good works Amaechi has done.
Earlier, Governor Chibuike Amaechi said the rally was an acid test for the party’s popularity, while urging the people to challenge corrupt politicians by voting them out in the upcoming elections.
