2014 NSF: Delayed Zonal Elimination Worries Rivers Athetes

cation that zonal elimination for some category of sports for the forthcoming 19th National Sports festival in Calabar, Cross River State may not hold.
This is because the 17th of October this year fixed for the zonal elimination has already elapsed.
Director coaching, Rivers State Sports Council, Evangelsit Ezekiel Ordu dropped the hint in exclusive interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt, recently.
He explained that there has not been any information as to the date of zonal competition pointing out that the State Sports Council has also not informed the affected sports on the issue.
Ordu said that the date earlier fixed for the zonal competition was expected to hold on or before October 17 this year.
“Since it did not commence on the 17th of October, we are still waiting for a new date to be officially announced for the competition,” Ordu insisted.
Meanwhile, Rivers State athletes are ready for the competition which is expected to hold before the festival proper.
Expectations are high for the athletes as they fortify their preparations for the fiesta tagged, “Paradise Games 2014,”
Teams expected to participate in the zonal elimination are Hockey, football, handball, volleyball, basketball and Abula (traditional sport).
