19th NSF: Calabar To Host S’South Zonal Elimination

The zonal elimination for
the forthcoming 19th National Sports Festival (NSF), has been scheduled to kick-off on the 17th of this month with the South South Zone clashing in Calabar, Cross River State.
The Director of Sports Coaching, Rivers State Sports Council, Evangelist Ezekiel Ordu, disclosed this in an interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the date for the zonal qualifiers was tentative, saying that it may commence as scheduled or postponed from the already fixed date for the competition.
“For now, we are working with the available date, but, the elimination may commence before or after the scheduled date. I think it is subject to confirmation”, he said.
The Director Coaching, also, said that Rivers athletes are set for victory at the zonal elimination, adding that, they (athletes) have prepared for the qualifiers and are determined to do well.
“The coaches have done their part by imparting the techniques and the rules of the various Sports, it now behoves on them (athletes) to do their bid”, he added.
He, however, advised the state athletes to be focused, disciplined and committed to their chosen sports in order to excel at the zonal and the National Sports fiesta proper when competition begins.
About six team sports are expected to participate in the zonal elimination. These include volleyball, hockey, handball, football, basketball and abula traditional sport.
