Why Homes Prefer Gas Cookers
Gas stove is a cooking
utensil that uses propane, butane, liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas or any other flammable gas to burn.
In many kitchens today, two types of gas stove are popular: Electric Ignition pilot lights. The pilot lights are constantly lit independent of outside power sources. Suffice it to say that you do not need any external source of fire to get it working. Instead, each time the ignition knob is turned on, flame comes up and the stove is set to be used for cooking. It can come in handy during power outages.
The electric ignition system ignite a new each time the stove is tuned on.
The use of gas stoves in Nigerian homes was not predominant in the 80s because of the fear of it as a possible explosive, which tact this all-important cooking vessel has not reneged till date. However, growing knowledge and awareness tend to suppress that fear in homes hence making the use of gas stoves very popular in Nigerian homes today. Another outstanding reason for the recent prefence of gas stoves over elective and kerosene ones is that gas stoves more evely distribute heat, which gives better results.
In addition, gas stoves with pilot light ignition can be used during power outage and where external fire source can not be accessed.
Professional chefs would tell you that gas stoves are more energy proficient than any other, especially with 21st century models boasting up to 40 per cent greater fuel efficiency than their older siblings.
Aside these gaisn of gas stoves over other ones, one downside of gas stoves is that they can be unsafe when they are not properly maintained. The raised heating elements on gas stoves can pose challenges for cleaning.
Concerning the traditional fears of its explosive tendency. Undetected gas leaks no doubt can lead to serious explosions, if an open flame is introduced to gas in the air. Additionally, extinguished pilot lights can cause deadly carbon monoxide leaks.
Therefore, to play safe, it is important that gas cylinders are kept distance away from the cooktops or stoves, preferably outside the kitchen with a hole bore on the wall of the kitchen through which the connecting tube can be passed to the stove.
