Weekly Sanitation Exercise: NURTW To Sanction Erring Members

The National Union
of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Mile III Motor Park is to sanction members who refuse to participate in the Thursday  weekly environmental sanitation exercise.
Speaking to The Tide reporters during the exercise, the union secretary, Mr Cyril C. Amadi said that no members of the union would be allowed to operate during the exercise which lasted from 7-to 10 am.
Mr Amadi said that the government did not impose the exercise as a form of punishment on the drivers, stressing that cleanliness was an essential component of the society.
He said that apart from mile III the exercise is being observed throughout the state as far as NURTW is concerned stressing that officials of the state Ministry of Environment are being invited to observe it in all the motor parks.
In his words, the leadership  here has not changed when  people failed to observed sanitation believe you me, they will be punished so everybody hands is on deck to make sure sanitation is being observed here he said.
The union secretary also used the occasion to draw the attention of the Ministry of Environment to the  indiscriminate parking of vehicles outside the park saying that the unions hands are tied as far as the issue is concerned.
Similarly traders at mile I market have commanded the Rivers State Government for the weekly sanitation exercise.
Across section  of the traders told The Tide that the exercise has made the market neat for business activities.
Mr Chibu Agugo said that the exercise should be emulated across the states of the federation noting that its good for the health of traders and customers.
