Newly appointed Presi
dent of coaches and management Students Association (CAMSA) of Rivers State Sports Institute Isaka, Richard Kenneth has appealed to the state government to give the school a face lift that would breath new life into the institute.
Kenneth made the appeal yesterday after he was appointed the president of CAMSA, saying that the school needs urgent attention in terms of infrastructure and man-power (lecturers).
According to him, the institute is presently faced with challenges in the area of bad road, absence of power supply, portable water, infrastructure, dilapidating building and lack of teachers.
The president of the CAMSA further said that the standard of the school in terms of quality learning is noted to be higher than the Nigeria Sports Institute (NIS) saying that, students were in Port Harcourt go to Lagos to obtain heir certificate for one qualification or another, because of the poor state of the institute.
He added that the aim of the institute, which is to train talents to replace older athletes in the state and at the National level is being defeated. “The motto: of the institute is Sports and Academic Excellence,” he recalled.
He continued that should the school be given adequate attention and be renovated parents would begin to register their children as they use to in the sports institute of old, also, more coaches would go there for their upgradement courses.
This would further keep the youth in check and focus, as their energy would be directed towards sports, which would likely secure their career and a future rather than engage in social vices,” Kenneth said.
He however, appreciated the efforts of the Head of Department (H.O.D) Sports Administration and coaching, Umor Okonny, among others who have put in their best to ensure that the institute survives these challenges as there were few lecturers left.
