A catfish farmer, Mr
Charles Benson, has decried the plans by Rivers State government to privatise the multi-million naira fish farm at Buguma in Asari Toru local government area as a welcome development.
Benson, a graduate of physiology who spoke to our correspondent at his farm in Ahoada, said the plan by the government was a step in the right direction.
According to him, experience has shown that governments are not good business managers, adding that Private Public Partnership (PPP) of the Buguma Fish Farm is a better option.
He said with the present set up, the fish farm, which has created employment for indigenes of the area, would enhance the empowerment of the indigenes in particular and Rivers people in general.
Benson, who currently operates his catfish farm at Ahoada, said that one cannot compare the total attention given to personal business to government establishment.
“Private people are passionate about their business while the belief that government property belongs to none is a truth,” he said.
While praising the state governor, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi on his developmental strides in the agricultural sector, he urged him not to relent in the privatization processes in the sector.
