Imo State Governor,
Rochas Okorocha, has descended on the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its alleged verbal attacks on the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference hosted by the state government, saying the criticism was targeted at frustrating the hosting of the event in the state.
According to a press statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, in Owerri, recently, Okorocha lamented that the Onslaught, was meant to discredit his person and cost the state government the hosting right.
The governor recalled that the PDP earlier came up with the excuse of an Ebola outbreak in the state if the event was allowed to hold there, but when that did not prevent the event from holding it resorted to image laundering, accusing him of withholding the entitlements of past political appointees.
“In all the media publications against the conference, which were signed by the acting publicity secretary of the party in the state, Chief (Barrister) Enyinnaya Onuegbu, said the party never told the world why it did not want the conference to hold in Owerri.
“It only talked about the rule of law which it said Governor Okorocha had breached by not paying the appointees of the former governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim their entitlements, which they could not be paid. All these only explain the pitiable state the PDP in Imo State has degenerated into,” the released stated.
