Members of the Ni
geria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Warri zone last Thursday commenced a indefinite  strike following the failure of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) to meet the body’s one-week ultimatum.
The body had threatened strike action  should the company fail to reabsorb its sacked members.
A statement by the Senior Assistant General Secretary in Warri, Mr Otite Onohowowho said the union had no option than to declared the industrial action since management of CNL failed to honour their communiqué of July 10, 2014.
It explained that the communiqué was issued at the instance of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Abuja to resolve the industrial dispute between the union and the management and declare that the strike which was hitherto suspended has now resumed. The union urged the branch executives to ensure that the decision is strictly followed in the zone.
The zone covers Warri, Edo, Ekiti, Kogi and Ondo states.
The strike which has paralysed activities at the Warri Refineries, filling stations, loading depots and all oil facilities in these affected states would definitely increase the suffering of the general masses who depend on their services.
