NNPC Wants Army, Police To Protect Oil, Gas Assets

Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) Dr. Joseph Thlama Dawha, has solicited for sustainance of the corporation’s understanding with the Nigerian army and the Nigeria Police  Force in protection of oil and gas assets in the country.
Darwa who was speaking during courtesy visits of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Kenneth Minimah at the Army Headquarters and the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba at the Forces Headquarters, the NNPC boss praised the security Chiefs for their role in providing the much needed cover for the smooth operations of the corporation despite mounting security challenges.
He said NNPC would continue to collaborate with the Nigerian Army which he noted had been supportive to the corporation in securing the corporation’s assets in the Upstream, Midstream and Down stream sectors.
He enjoined them to continue with their support in the fight against crude oil theft which he said has had negative impact on the nation’s resources in the recent times.
In his reaction, the Chief of Arm Staff assured that the two organisations would continue with their bond for the economic development of Nigeria, stressing that providing security to national assets including those of NNPC was one of the first lines of duty of the Army.
Minimah also lauded interventions from the various tiers of Government in providing appropriate platforms to enhance the Army’s effectiveness in providing security for NNPC’s assets and promised that the army would continue in the bid for the interest of the nation’s economy.
In similar manner, the IGP also promised that the Nigeria Police would continue to accord high priority to the protection of oil and gas facilities in the country.
