NLC Pickets Firm Over Dismissal Of Employees
The Nigeria Labour Con
gress, Abia State chapter last Wednesday held a protest at the premises of Vallerumbra Flour Mills Nigeria Limited located at Kilometer two, Aba/Port Harcourt Expressway over the alleged dismissal of 76 employees of the firm.
In a statement, the NLC state chairman, Comrade Sylvernus Eyeh said that the company had accused them of joining trade unions.
Eyeh accused the firm’s management of being insensitive to workers plight stressing that the conditions of service of the company is so applauding .
The NLC boss has then directed the workers to shut production activities and to vacate the firm’s premises until the leadership of the congress addresses the matter with the management of the company.
The company which produces flour, Semolina Macarori, Spagheti, Animal feeds, among others was also accused of payment of poor wages to the workers.
The labour leader said the picketing of the firm was further prompted by the outright refusal of the company to pay the workers their salaries since June.
He said the workers, must be allowed to join relevant trade unions of their choice as provided by the extant labour law of the country.
The NLC Chairman explained that the only conditions for the congress to reopen the company’s premises is for the management to revert to status quo.
