Lagos Declares Oct 15, Horn-free Day
The Lagos state govern
ment has declared October 15, to be observed in the state as a horn-free day in every calendar year.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa, disclosed this, in a media briefing in Lagos over the weekend.
Opeifa said the government has set aside Wednesday October 15, as a horn-free day in the state where horning automobiles ranging from bicycles, tricycles, Okada and other types of vehicles would not be used throughout the whole day commencing from the day.
According to him, the day would help reduce noise pollution, adding that motorist would be encouraged to stop baring their horn throughout the day. Opeifa, noted that the exercise would linger and gradually a horn free consciousness would sprout.
The commissioner urged transporters, private car owner and Okada riders to support the government in ensuring a reduction in noise pollution through strict adherence to the exercise.
He further explained that the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babtunde Fashola has approved the plan as part of his continued advocacy for improve road disciplines among road users in the metropolis.
