IT Expert Blames Business Loss On Poor Data Processing
The huge financial loss
incurred by Nigerian investors in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has been linked to lack of basic concept on modern technique relating to data processing, storage and management.
The chief operating officer, Sylog Consult, Mr. Bolaji Banjoko, said this recently at a workshop on Information Technology in a monitored news in Port Harcourt.
He noted that the system had an edge over paper-based documentation in modern day business transaction.
According to him, the era of paper documentation was past, adding that the earlier the SME operators embrace the new system, the better for them.
He recalled that the forum was organised to handle and formulate storage management strategy, adding that it has a link with storing, organising and data sharing.
He was of the opinion that Information Technology (IT) needed in an organisation was determined by the organisation’s size seeking to install data processor and manager.
The IT expert, called on SMEs operators to avail themselves of the opportunity, despite the cost.
According to him, proper adaptation to the system, helps in streamlining one’s business operation and also lengthen’s company’s life span.
He emphasised that the paper system was time wasting, comparing the hours employed to increase productivity, expansion among others.
Part of the problems confronting information technologists, especially in the area of large data management he said, was lack of proper data handling system.
He maintained that moving and organising data requires a system that must be durable via steady power supply.
In addition, he also said that access to internet facility was also not at a point that could aid data processing and storage.
