Gunmen Kill Enugu Magistrate
Enugu residents have
been thrown into panic, following the murder of a serving Chief Magistrate, O J Nwani, on Tuesday.
This came as the armed robbers who laid siege on Abakpa Nike, Enugu East local government area of Enugu state capital since last week, have continued their raid on the residents, stealing money and wounding their victims.
Our source stated that the judicial officer was killed by suspected assassins.The State Police Command has confirmed the death of the Chief Magistrate, saying it had commenced investigations to unravel the motive behind the assassination.
Sources said the magistrate, who is serving in Enugu South Magisterial Division, was reportedly called by his assailant and when he came out, he was shot severally in his head and chest at closed range.
The assailants were said to have fled the scene after the shooting in an unmarked vehicle.The Chief Magistrate was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Enugu, where he was confirmed dead.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, while confirming the incident, said the command had not made any arrest, but that efforts were on to track-down the killers.
“Our operatives are on the trail of the murderers, we will do everything possible to track them down,” Amaraizu said.
In a related development, the residents of Abakpa Nike area of Enugu are now living in fear, following the rising wave of armed robbery in the area.
