Gateway Church Football Tourney Gets Underway In PH

The maiden edition of Gate
way International Church Grassroots Football tournament being organized in conjunction with the United Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, UYSFON got underway in Port Harcourt at the Community Secondary School, Playground Nkpolu.
Two matches were decided as part of the opening ceremony, which saw Amphibious Football Club trounce Scarlet FC 3-0 and Gateway FC 1 losing narrowly, 0-1 to Diamond FC.
According to the president of UYSFON, the organisers of the tournament, Chief Godspower Kookoriko, the competition is a grassroots based tournament being sponsored by the Gateway International Church, Port Harcourt as part of evangelism exercise.
Also, it would afford the youth in the city to explore and exhibit their talents towards better opportunities in the game.
Chief Kokoriko explained that the competition which is being played on league basis has 16 clubsides divided into four groups of four teams each.
He assured that every effort had been made to ensure that the tournament is hitch-free and observes the rules of the game to the letter.
The competition which is scheduled to end on the 18th of this month has  seen six matches played so far.
In the matches played on Friday and Saturday, Sharp shooters FC gained three points and three goals over Ahoada East FC via walkover, Mercyland FC 1 pipped their Lord of Hosts counterparts 1-0.
Glo Dek FC lost 0-1 to the community team, while Gateway FC II overcame Havillah FC 4-0.
Matches continue at the venue today as mouthwatering prizes await top finishers at the end of the tournament.
