Consul-General of Nigeria in South Africa, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, has joined the race for Abia State governorship in 2015, with a promise to consolidate on what Governor Theordore Orji had done in the state.
Emuchay, a career diplomat of 31 years, voluntarily resigned this month as the Nigerian Consul-General in South Africa to seek the ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to contest the governorship seat.
Making his intention known to the state leadership of the party in Umuahia, Ambassador Emuchay explained that he voluntarily resigned from office to enable him render service to his people.
Emuchay, who was accompanied to the party office by the former Minister of State, Foreign Affairs and son of first Nigerian Military Head of State, Ambassador Thomas Aguiyi Ironsi, said he has a passion for service.
“What we desire today is to move forward because Ochendo (Governor Orji) has done a lot, especially in the area of security. My 84 year-old-mother had to go on exile in the United States of America for one year because of kidnapping”, he said.
