Coach Atttributes Angels’ Loss To Injuries
Assistant coach of Riv
ers Angels Football Club of Port Harcourt, Whyte Ogbondah has attributed his team’s 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa Amazons to the absence of key players in the game. Some players were missing in Rivers Angels first team due to injuries.
Ogbondah, said this shortly after his lost, in one of the week 11 fixtures of the on-going Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) between Rivers Angels and the Amazons on Wednesday held in Lafia.
“We have injury and sickness problems in the team that is affected the play but, I won’t say it is a major factor, though few of them are injured and two of them are sick so they could not travel for the match but I won’t say that is the reason we lost the match, just that my team did not play well,”Ogbondah said.
According to him, “we were not expecting to lose this match bearing in mind that we have five away matches and we were trying to make sure that out of the five games, we will be able to win one and draw the rest but it did not happen that way, and at the end of the day we lost the match. My girls failed to utilize their chances that came way,” he added.
He continued that we players can not complain much about poor officiating, because that do not stop us from scoring. My players are in a bad mood, because, they failed to take their chances and would have gotten a draw or win the game.
The other rescheduled game between Sunshine and Pelican Stars FCs did not hold in Akure due to accident.
Rivers Angels, still remains on top of the NWPL table with 39 points and four away matches to play before the end of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a hard fight between the 2013 champions of champions Nasarawa Amazons and the league leaders (Rivers Angels) after being beaten 1-0 in the reverse fixture in week 11 of the NWPL.
