AWC: Nkwocha’s Experience Key For Falcons – Coach
Super Falcons coach
Edwin Okon has said that he invited veteran striker Perpetua Nkwocha for the African Women’s Championship (AWC) camp because of her wealth of experience.
According to Okon, he needs the likes of Perpetua Nkwocha, Stella Mbachu and Precious Dede to bolster the team with their experience.
“I invited Nkwocha because she is a very important and experienced member of the Falcons,” the Falcons coach explained.
“The younger players would benefit very well from her experience and tactics to help Nigeria to regain the AWC in Namibia.”
However, Okon warned that all the seven invited foreign-based players must report to camp early enough to fight for a place in the final 21-member squad for Namibia, adding that there will not be automatic place for anybody in the team.
He said that the era of players strolling into camp and still make the team is over, noting that only the best players would be selected for the AWC.
“There will be no sentiments in selecting the squad that will try to regain the title that was lost in Equatorial Guinea two years ago. There is no automatic shirt for anybody be her foreign or home-based,” he stressed
He reiterated the resolve of the team to storm Namibia and bring the cup back to Nigeria, adding that they want to go to the World Cup as African champions and do well.
