2,700 Poultry Farmers Get Incentives
The 2014 GES poultry
value chain rollout programme is set to cover 27 states in the country with 2700 beneficiaries of 100 day-old chicks, three 25kg bags of feed or quick mash and vaccines.
This was disclosed by the Director, Animal Production and Husbandry at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Dr Adenola Raji who was represented by his deputy, Mr Rasheed Adeola at a ceremony in Kwara State recently.
The event witnessed the empowerment of 100 poultry famers with over 100,000 day-old chicks at subsidized prices.
Speaking at the event, Raji said the value chain was set to promote efficiency in poultry production and reduce poultry mortality to less than 5 per cent.
He said the process would also assist in marketing, processing and value addition for poultry products including creation of over 480 direct jobs and about 3,000,000 indirect employment by the year 2015.
The Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture in his speech commended the Federal Government’s gesture which he said was capable of enhancing the capacity of net income of poultry farmers in agric business.
He urged the farmers to utilize the inputs in the most efficient way.
In his response, Mr Dayo Gawati assured the Federal Government of the commitment of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) to the gesture.
