World Leaders Focus On Women, Child Health

World leaders under
the aegis of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Advocates Group have called for an end to global poverty, preventable maternal, newborn and child mortality.
The forum of eminent persons whose attention was focused on the need to deliver on the MDGs and end poverty by 2030 also called for a new frame work for the MDGs, to be debated by the U.N. General Assembly in September.
The forum, which was co-hosted by the South African government PMNCH, Count down to 2015, A promise renewed and the Independent Expert review Group, discussed several reports such as “Count down to 2014 and “Success factors to women’s and children’s health”.
On the effort of the forum towards achieving its objective, Prime Minister Solberg said, “Globally, we have made good progress on the MDGs. But more can and must be done.
“With fever than 550 days until the MDGs deadline, time is of essence to scale-up our efforts on behalf of adolescents”, she said.
The MDG Advocates are a group of World Leaders and development champions selected by the UN Secretary-General to mobilize global action n the MDGs.
