Valuer Wants RSG To Develop Yearly Housing Plan
An estate surveyor and
valuer in Port Harcourt, Fred Amachree has urged the Rivers State Government to develop a political will and come up with a policy that would ensure annual housing delivery for low income earners.
He said that for every average worker that earns low especially those in the public service to own house, development must be on a yearly basis, where specific number of housing units must be delivered.
Amachree who was speaking in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt Court, stated that low cost housing are for the low income earners, and that it is a simpler house without luxury.
He said that if the state government can target a yearly delivery of about 500 to 1,000 housing units, that in 10 years time about 10,000 housing units are built adding that would go a long way to addressing the low income housing challenge.
According to him when we talk about those who are in need of house, we know that it is those that are in the low income bracket, and they are a very large population.
He regretted that the low income earners do not easily have access to Mortgage, and as a result would find it difficult to build their own houses.
The state Professional Maintained that any responsible government has an obligation to provide mortgage facilities for those in public service.
He however urged government to ensure that there is an agreed method of recovering of the funds given to workers in form of mortgage saying such could be recovered through monthly deductions from salaries.
