Uniport Student Dies In Auto Crash, Driver Flees
A second year student of
the University of Port Harcourt, Uchechukwu Ordu was killed last Monday by a hit and run driver at Nkpolu Junction in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The student, who was on his way to the university was knocked down by a taxi driver, who fled immediately after the incident occurred, an eyewitness said.
The eye witness, who spoke under the cloak of anonymity to The Tide Monday in Port Harcourt said the deceased had nobody to rescue him and had to give up the ghost.
The eye witness further explained that the corpse of the student was left on the road until staff of the Obio/Akpor Local Council reported the matter to the Special Area Police, Rumuokoro and the policemen carried the corpse to the police station for the purpose of identification.
He informed The Tide that the deceased was said to have come from Egbeda in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to him, the corpse of the dead student of Uniport had been deposited at a morgue along the East-West Road.
A family source who spoke with The Tide noted that the death of the student was a severe blow to his family.
The family member who simply identified himself as Mr Wama called on the police to make efforts to apprehend the suspected killer of their brother.
He said the deceased person had led a humble and respectful life.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) proved abortive.
