U-20 World Cup: Falconets Qualify For Finals
Nigeria on
Wednesday night reached a second FIFA U20 World Cup final in four years when they thrashed North Korea 6-2.
Asisat Oshoala struck four times against the North Koreans when she hit target in the 24th, 60th, 68th and 85th minutes to crown an awesome day in the office as the Falconets soared highest in Canada.
The Falconets are expected to meet the winners of the other semi-final between Germany and France in Montreal on Sunday to determine the best women’s team at this level in the world.
Nigeria coach Peter Dedevbo planned for an early goal to unsettle their opponents and he only had to wait for two minutes before US-based Courtney Dike produced another early strike when she fired home.
Oshoala doubled Nigeria lead on 24 minutes, before Korea pulled a goal back courtesy R.Un Sim in the 31st minute.
However, towering striker Uchechi Sunday came off the bench to increase the Nigeria lead when she finished off a fine pullout from the right in the 55th minute.
After Oshoala got her second goal on the hour, Korea scored from the penalty spot after Njoku handled the ball inside her box.
But thereafter it was the Oshoala show as she plundered two more goals including a spectacular long-range effort for Nigeria to reach a second U20 World Cup final.
