TUC Decries Political Crisis In Rivers
The Chairman, Rivers
State Chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Chika Onuegbu, has expressed worry over the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The TUC boss said the crisis was capable of dragging back the state to its doom days of 2006 and 2007 when insecurity was the order of the day.
Speaking at a Round-table Business Seminar, organised by Rivers Entrepreneurs And Investors Forum (REIF) in Port Harcourt, last Thursday, Comrade Onuegbu commended Governor Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi’s bold step to confront security challenges in the state as well as returning the state to socio-economic and political stability.
He recalled the challenges posed by militancy on the state’s economic development and democracy, prior to Amaechi’s administration in 2007 and stressed the need for politicians and the citizenry to join hands with the state government in moving the state to the next level.
He noted that the recent poltical crisis in the state did not encourage investment in the state.
He called on the state government to maintain and focus on policy that would create an enabling environment for socio-economic and political development in the state.
According to him, good policy derives the economy and ensures political stability of any country, adding that the state has the economic potential to grow faster than any other states in the country, if there is a conducive environment.
