TIMARIV Condemns Destruction Of Zone Three Office Property
The Rivers State Road
Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) has condemned the recent destruction of the agency’s property and carting away of other valuables worth over N500,000 from their zone three office along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt.
The Chief Press Officer of the Agency, Mr Nimi Brown-West made the condemnation in a statement made available to our correspondent in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Brown-West said the incident occurred during the fracas between supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Obio/Akpor Local Government Area when their men impounded a Jeep belonging to one Chief Owhonda of the PDP over obstruction of free flow of traffic.
He stated that the car in question was impounded by his men earlier in the day before the fracas, but was surprised when Chief Owhonda came to their office with some of his party faithful to forcefully collect the vehicle.
According to him, the angry looking party faithful, numbering over 150 came to their office, beat up the officers and men on duty, broke the glasses of two of their official vehicles and a tow truck as well as made away with two computers and phones.
The TIMARIV spokesman said that tenants in the premises were also beaten up and a sum of N150,000 was allegedly stolen from them during the exercise.
“We lost property worth over N500,000 please, we are pleading with the general public that TIMARIV is not a political party or group. We are only a road traffic management authority, which is set up to ensure that our roads are free and safe for movement, accident free. So people should not put their grievances on us. We are there to serve the public and not to fight the public”, he further stated.
“We therefore plead with the government and the relevant authorities to please come to our aid so that Chief Owhonda and his team will replace the things they destroyed and carted away”, Brown-West posited, adding that if this action was taken, it would serve as deterant to others
The Tide gathered that TIMARIV had already petitioned to security agents over the incident and for justice to take its course.
