SPDC Expresses Worry Over Oil Spill In Bayelsa
The Shell Petroleum De
velopment Company of Nigeria (SPDC) Limited, has expressed worry over the continuous trend of oil spills traced to hoodlums in parts of Bayelsa State.
This was contained in a release signed by its Media Relations Manager, Mr Precious Okoloko and made available to the press recently in Yenagoa.
According to the statememt, the work affected areas like Okordia and Ikarama where sabotage and crude theft had been so far reported.
It further stated that a joint investigation recently carried out by both the company and government officials indicated that it was the removal of a valve at a manifold by some unknown persons in Okordia that caused a spill sometime in June.
The Tide learnt that about 600 barrels of crude oil were lost in the process.
The statement, indicated that a swift response by its concerned team was on ground to address the issue, regretting that the community youth denied them access.
The denial as we were told, has something to do with the labour cost of the clean up exercise.
The repair, he said was later carried out after a resolution through the intervention by the community development board that guaranteed access.
It regretted that some persons in the country could still vandalise its facilities considering their relationship with the people.
The Tide were gathered that the issue of oil spill in the country might not end that soon, unless some big men who are involved left the system.
