Gbolahan Salami has told
newsmen that his call-up by Nigeria is a reward for what he has showed at Warri Wolves.
The striker has so far netted 11 times this season for Warri Wolves.
Salami is one of four home-based players picked for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.
The others are goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim, Kunle Odunlami and Christian Osagona.
The striker, who was part of the bronze medal-winning CHAN 2014 team under Stephen Keshi, told Africanfootball.com:”I am very happy over this invitation.
“I have always looked forward to it and it has come. All I can say is that it’s a reward for my hard work thus far for my club in the league.”
However, he said he will therefore continue to work hard to justify his invitation.
“I am not going to say I want to wrestle the jersey from any of the established strikers, but I will put in my best to earn a place in the Eagles squad anytime,” he further said.
