PH High Court Declares Secret Cult Illegal

Court presided over by Justice J.M. Kobani had declared the Ofiokpo cult in Asarama Town in the Andoni Local Government Area as a secret society whose continuous existence is unlawful and unconditional.
The court also declared as unlawful and unconstitutional the activities of members of the Ofiokpo cult.
The court also declared that, the existence, operations and activities of the Ofiokpo cult in Asarama Town constituted an infringement of the claimnant’s fundamental right to life, dignity of the human person, personal liberty, private and family life, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of expression right to peaceful assembly and association, right to freedom of movement and right to freedom from discrimination as enshrined in Sections 33 and 34 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and the existence and operations / activities of the Ofiokpo cult were therefore unlawful and unconstitutional.
The court also granted     a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants jointly and severally by themselves and their agents as members of the Ofiokpo cult from associating, carrying out or performing or doing any act in the name of Ofiokpo cult in Asarama Town.
The court further ordered the defendants from interfering with the religious or any other programme / activities of the claimants in Asarama Town in Andoni Local Government Area.
