NURTW Kicks Against Use Of Revenue Consultants
The national leadership
of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has kicked against the continued use of the services of revenue consultants by the federal and some state governments in the country.
In a press release by the union, signed by its National President Comrade Najeem Usman Yasin obtained by The Tide from the union’s secretariat, in Port Harcourt, urged the three tiers of government to discontinue the use of revenue consultants in revenue collections.
Yasin said the use of revenue consultants by the governments in revenue collections is contrary to Section 2 Taxes and Levy Acts, law of the Federation and other relevant revenue laws of the various states.
The union leader urged states and local governments in the country to rather strengthen their revenue laws to meet up with the present reality globally in terms of revenue generation and collection.
He said members of the union would cooperate with the three tiers of government to succeed in their revenue generation and collection drive.
The union boss praised the Federal Government, National Planning Commission, Central Bank Governor and other stakeholders for critical wise decision they took on the report by the Ministerial Implementation Committee on the Harmonization of Taxes submitted to the National Economic Council (NEC).
Meanwhile, the union has lauded the effort of the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba for his proactive steps taken to overhaul security policing of the nation few days in office.
The NURTW president said the union was happy with the IGP decision directing the immediate removal of illegal road blocks on the highways through the federation.
