The Nigeria Labour
Congress is seeking  the full implementation of the collective bargain labour policy in the country.
In a statement by the NLC signed by the National President, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, the union maintained that the development and practice of collective bargaining were hinged on trade union consciousness, the attitude of the public towards the trade unions and the level of respect for human rights and industrial democracy by the government.
Omar said the factors that weakened collective bargaining were not only limited to fear of official victimisation, intimidation by government and employers, divide and rule strategy of employers, lack of awareness of negotiation objectives by workers because of ineffective  communication between bargainers and other stakeholders.
He stressed that there is need to build and strengthen collective bargaining principles in organisations for broaden participation by workers and trade unions in policy formulation and implementation in order to prevent any negative impact on trade union members.
The labour leader said that collective bargaining is the most effective process for winning improvements in the working conditions of workers in the workplace.
He said collective bargain enhances social achievement in workplace, political and economic transformation through increased productivity, job security, motivation and greater participation in Union related activities by the workers.
The NLC boss said collective bargaining in the country has problems in terms of its restrictive nature and the relative large number of workers outside the coverage of collective bargaining policy.
