NLC Joint Council Hails VC’s Achievements

The leadership of the
Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (Joint Council) in the state have applauded the achievements and academic  initiatives of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) Vice Chancellor Professor Barineme Fakae.
Speaking during an exclusive  interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, after the Joint Unions visitation to the University.
The state chairman, Joint Council Comrade Emecheta Chukwu, said the organised Labour in the state were impressed with the restoration of sanity and academic excellence  to the premier citadel  of learning.
Chukwu said that the  leadership of the vice chancellor in the university has brought restoration to the institution, stressing that the state government took the right  step for  in the reappointment of Barineme Fakae as  the vice chancellor despite opposition of few  personalities.
He said the vice chancellor had  tackled  the malaise of cultism, rape, adding that previously  no defence of projects, thesis  in the  institution which has become  a thing of the past, as RSUST  is now noted  for discipline.
The labour leader said Prof Fakae has restored  academic  standards in the institution, stressing that “today the institution has a functionally library  of a world class standard  through  the efforts of  Prof Barineme Fakae.
He said “Labour in the state are impressed with the power supply system in the institution, the improved  standard of the  hostels and generally the academic environment as restored  by the vice chancellor.
Chukwu said the institution’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT)  is of international standard  that would  assist  computer  literacy level of the students.
He said the organised  labour in the state would partner with the institution  having seen the great  transformation brought  about by the  vice chancellor  training of labour leaders on managerial leadership skills.
He appealed to the members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) to join hands with the vice chancellor to move the  university to a more greater heights of academic excellence.
Chukwu enjoined the state government to ensure that infrastructure standards are maintained for the benefit  of the  students as the university is the pride  of the state.
