NGO Makes Case For Housing Integration
A non-governmental
Organisation (NGO), the Collaborate Media Advocacy Platform (CMAP) has said that issue of housing has to be connected to other areas like employment, and also be integrated to other aspect of city life.
Micheael Uwemedimo, the Rivers State representative of CMAP who spoke to journalists shortly after a housing forum in Port Harcourt, explained that Nigerians need to play safe in their homes in terms of security.
Uwemedimo who condemned the system of force eviction, which has become the practice in many government authorities said that the people ought to be adequately be informed on time on any issue relating to their area of residence.
According to him, the CMAP has created a platform for people to express their mind and views particularly on issues that affect their living and habitation, in line with the United Nations guideline.
Our role as CMAP is to create room for dialogue, and for people to participate on issue that pertains to housing and habitat, he stated.
Uwemedimo, however, praised the efforts made by the Rivers State so far in repositioning the Port Harcourt city through collaborative efforts with other agencies in housing sector.
He also argued that the under development of the rural areas has led to the migration from rural to urban area, which has left numerous challenges on the environment in terms of housing demand. He therefore called for a shift in planning and execution of polices.
