NECA Seeks Trade Union Act Amendment
The former President Ni
geria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), Chief Richard Uche, has sought for the immediate amendment of the Trade Union Act in order to allow trade union to directly collect check-off dues from their members.
Uche, who spoke to media men in Lagos recently said the call has became necessary following the inability of trade union to mobilise and manage its members.
He said if the trade union Act is amended to allow trade union to collect check-off dues from members a conducive atmosphere would be created for a peaceful industrial relations practice.
He enjoined the leadership of trade union to always respect the rules and laws on dispute settlement, stressing that employers have rights of protection anytime trade union pickets a company or embarks on strike action.
He said “in the past two years, employers have shouted hoarse on the decadent state of industrial relations.
Uche said the state of industrial relations in Nigeria is festering on impunity, illegal strikes, vandalisation of properties in the course of strike, raising indiscipline by trade unions, disdain for Labour rules and laws and indifference by security outfits to protect employers.
He said this certainly could not be the right content for maximise productivity and peaceful industrial relations in Nigeria.
He said NECA would continue to do its best in its efforts to fight for the rights of enterprise and employers, stressing that NECA will continue to rise up to the deployment of all legitimate means to ensure the survival and competitiveness of its members.
