Lawyer Wants Stringent Laws Against Corruption
A Port Harcourt based
lawyer and human rights crusader, Barr. Abraham Jaude, has advocated stringent laws against the festering corruption in the country.
Barr. Jande, who spoke with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Monday said things would continue to go hug if corrupt political office holders were allowed to do things their own way with respect for the rule of law.
He called for stringent laws on corruption to check the ugly trend that had made Nigeria notorious among nations.
Barr. Jande described as unfortunate the current laws that allow politicians who steal billion of naira to only spend a few months in prison.
He said the country would never change unless corruption was made a big crime.
The lawyer said it was pathetic that the Nigerian Courts could clear Ibori, the former Delta State Governor of Corruption Charges yet he was found guilty in Britain.
He said such a situation did not speak well of Nigeria’s legal system.
He said the rule of law must prevail in order for society to be a better place for all. Barr. Jande remarked that all must join hands to remake Nigeria.
