The Judiciary Staff Union
of Nigeria (JUSUN) in Ondo State has begun an indefinite strike action on Wednesday over what the union alleged was maladministration by the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Laschinde Kumuyi.
The state’s chapter chairman State chapter, Comrade Femi Ogunode said the union noted with dismay the adoption of wrong policies in the administration of justice and the judiciary of Ondo State.
Ogunode said the wrong policies included deploying magistrates to administrative positions as well as non-consideration of conversion, advancement and promotion.
The union said the industrial action by JUSUN members was crucial, following a failed negotiation deal between the union representatives, the Ondo State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and management of the state’s judiciary.
The union boss said that the decision to embark on the strike was reached at the union’s congress held in Akure recently.
The union chairman further said that the continuous holding of administrative positions by magistrates was not in the best interest of the workers and the system.
He said Ondo State JSC has failed to heed the advice of the State Head of Service that due process should be followed in fashioning out new scheme of service for the Registrars,  stressing that JSC should rather  send magistrates to acquire administrative knowledge if the state JSC wants magistrates to perform administrative duties.
The union also said many workers had been denied promotions while some who had applied for conversion were not considered.
He said the strike was total until the Ondo State government, JSC and management of the judiciary met their demands.
