Journalist, Others Installed Chiefs In Khana
A seasoned journalist in
Rivers State and Deputy Editor of Independent Monitor Newspaper, Mr Emmanuel Mpeba has been installed as a chief by the people of Teyor Kaani community in Khana Local Government of the state.
Also installed as chiefs were Chief Saturday Ndinee, as the Paramount Ruler, Chief Barido. B. Nordee as deputy paramount ruler while chief Emmanuel Mpeba is to serve as the secretary of the Council of Chiefs and Elders.
Speaking during the formal coronation ceremony of the paramount ruler of Teyor Kaani community held at EE’ Mwon Townsquare, Saturday, the paramount ruler of the community, Chief Saturday Ndinee said that the installation ceremony marks the end of internal wrangling and disunity in the community and the entire Bua Kaani adding that the community had been without a legitimate paramount ruler after the death of the former ruler, late chief B.K. Porobe in 1989.
Ndinee opined that the position of the paramount ruler of the community was rotational and not hereditary and urged members of the public to disregard any claim that the position was hereditary.
“For the avoidance of doubt and to keep the records straight, we want to state categorically clear and with all amount of emphasis that the position of the paramount ruler of Teyor Kaani from time immemorial is rotational and never hereditary,” he stated.
The state government to recognize and upgrade the stool, and also extend electricity to the community, construct the Loogwere function linking the East-Wega road, provide portable drinking water as well as offer employment to the youths to the community.
The paramount ruler assured the community that his administration would be people-oriented, peaceful and ensure that all opinions were considered and commended them for the honour given to him and members of his council.
In his address, the chairman of the occasion, Mr Peter Kagbene, said change is only thing that is constant in life adding that change promote growth , civilization as well as unity adding that the community united for over 26 years in getting the decried change.
He urged the paramount ruler to ensure that everybody is carried along in the running of the community.
Also speaking, the secretary of Teyor council of chiefs and elders, Chief Emmanuel Mpeba described the event as historic in adding that the choice of the new paramount ruler was the making of the entire community.
He urged the state government to recognize the stool and assured the people that they will justify the confidence reposed on them .
