IAUE Suspends Six Lecturers …Appoints New DVC
The Senate of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) in Rivers State has announced the suspension of six lecturers of the institution for alleged acts of gross misconduct.
In a statement signed by Donald Okogbaa, Deputy Registrar and made available to The Tide, the management of the institution said that the suspended lecturers include a professor in the English Department who had been demoted in the past for acts of insubordination.
It further indicated that another lecturer in the Geography Department was suspended for six months for similar offences.
The statement listed two other lecturers In the Economics Department who were sent away for three months each for allegedly awarding marks to unqualified students.
One of the lecturer was said to have been suspended for passing a student who could not defend the grade awarded him outside the university environment.
The lecturer was merely warned to desist from acts of misconduct or face suspension by the Senate.
Meanwhile, the Ignatuis Ajuru University of Education has appointed Prof Joseph Barineka Kinanne as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the institution.
Prof Kinanne takes over from Prof Lawanson Agbani Briggs, who has served in the capacity for a period of over four years
In a statement made available to The Tide by the institution’s management, Prof Kinanne was the director School of Basic Studies at the St John’s Campus of the university as well as a lecturer with the department of educational psychology, Guidance and Counseling.
The statement revealed that the appointment takes effect from the 1st of August, 2014
It further called on the new Deputy Vice Chancellor to rise up to the challenge of the appointment and strive to contribute his quota to the overall growth and development of the institution.
