Tide’s Entertainment has it that the hit movie, “Half of a yellow Sun” topped the box office chart as the block buster movie grossed over N15 million in the first week of release in cinemas in Nigeria.
The flick hit the cinemas in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt on Friday August 1st 2014, while the movie sold out in Ibadan, Abuja Surulere and Lekki. It was gathered that the flick made an estimated of N5 million last Friday when it started showing in cinemas about N6 million was realized from ticket sales on Saturday and on Sunday it made close to N5 million.
In Port Harcourt a large crowd of movie buffs queued up at the silver bird cinemas, former Obi Wali Cultural Centre along Abonnema Wharf Road, Port Harcourt jostling for movie tickets anxious to watch the movie because of the controversy that surrounded the delay in its official release to the cinemas.
The movie which has been released in cinemas in the United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA), New Zealand and Australia has recorded appreciable sales from cinema release, inflight viewing rights, sales and online viewing rights.
The producers recently revealed that they have made over N280 million so far from world wide release. They are said to be looking forward at making over N100 million in Nigeria. A whooping N1.7 billion was pumped into the making of the movie which was shot in Calabar and London.
The film parades stars such as BAFTA Award Winners, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anika Rose, Genevieve Nnaji Onyeka Onwena etc. It is a must watch.
