FIFA Stops Fatai From Switching To Romania
FIFA has told Roma
nia that they cannot cap ex-Nigeria U20 striker Kehinde Fatai, the player himself has specially informed Tidesports source.
The Astra Giurgiu star striker told our source: “FIFA has told Romania FA that I am not eligible to play for the Romania national team as they had hoped. They said if I had got Romanian citizenship before I played for Nigeria junior teams, that would have been possible.”
Fatai has been a big hit since he moved to Romania from JUTH FC of Jos in the 2006/2007 season, when he joined Farul Constanta.
And last weekend,the in-form striker scored his seventh goal of the season as he helped his club to a 2-1 win over CSMS Iasi.
Astra Giurgiu is now third on Romanian league table with nine points from four matches.
He scored the winner for his team in the 39th minute, when he took the ball from centre circle, raced past his markers, then gave Brazilian Williams a pass and he scored from the return pass.
He told AfricanFootball.com he believes his goals will propel his club to greater heights this season.
“I am enjoying myself here, it has been a good way to start the season for me and my club. I am happy to score again,” offere d the striker, who last season played on loan at Club Brugge of Belgium.
“I want to keep scoring so as to help my team get to a very great stage this season.”
The former Nigeria U20 and U23 star has scored seven goals this season for Astra – two in the league, three in the Europa League and two in the Romania Cup.
