Customers Shun Flyover Market Over Poor Sanitation
Customers patronising
traders selling under the Port Harcourt Flyover Market are now shunning the area following its unhygienic condition.
The Tide learnt that worst affected are those dealing on roasted yams and other local food vendors .
Some of the traders told The Tide that the poor sanitary conditions of the area is now driving away customers.
According to some of the traders, the situation is being causedby people who did not see anything good in a clean environment.
In her view, a local food vendor, Mrs. Esther Felix said that most of her customers are no longer comfortable eating at the park, stressing that this situation has adversely affected her.
Mrs. Felix also lamented the lack of support from both the state and Federal Environmental agencies, stressing that for the past month no environmental officer has come around to supervise sanitation in the area.
Also speaking, Mr Innocent Igwe, a commercial bus driver said that customers avoiding the area are doing so in their own interest as eating in the area may lead to contracting communicable diseases.
He regretted the non challant attitude of some traders to participate in the weekly sanitation exercises, stressing that this situation must stop.
Another driver, Mr. Judge Robinson urged for the presence of a sanitation office in the area.
