Corruption: Parker Fires Back At Wike; Minister Can’t Explain Exotic Lifestyle …Owns N1bn House In Abuja, N5bn In PH …Karibi Whyte Hospital On Course
The Rivers State Government says the 1,000-bed Justice Adolphus Karibi Whyte Specialist hospital is not an abandoned project even as it challenged the Minister of State for Education, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to tell Nigerians the source of his wealth.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, who said this while reacting to allegations by the Minister of State for education, Wike also said that the State government has lost no money on the project.
He said that the project was on-going with a target completion date, stressing that in due time, Rivers people will be briefed on the progress of the hospital.
On the malaria elimination program, the Commissioner said that Rivers State was the first to embark on the programme in the country.
“Rivers state was the first state in Nigeria to embark on malaria elimination.
“The Governor, after consultation with experts in Nigeria, ECOWAS and WHO, decided that malaria elimination was achievable”.
He said that the programme was a big success as the incidence of malaria was reduced to 13 percent in the areas that the programme was carried out.
“Infact, it is the effectiveness and efficacy of our trial that led the National Council on Health to adopt malaria Elimination as a national health policy for Nigerian “, Parker said.
The Commissioner also explained that due to the high cost of biolarvicides, a factory to manufacture the product was commenced in the state.
According to him, “the foundation stone for this factory was laid by the ECOWAS President, Kadre Desire Quedrogo and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who was represented by Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu at the proposed site at Rumuosi in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area which is Wike’s Local Government of birth.
“ECOWAS is a partner in this project,” he said.
Parker also questioned the source of Wike’s claims, saying “I challenge Nyesom Wike to make same clear.
Wike has been in public service all of his adult life.
“There is no record that, he has worked any where either as a lawyer or a businessman, yet Nyesom Wike has properties in Port Harcourt valued at N5 billion”, he alleged.
He further alleged that the Minister’s private residence in Asokoro, Abuja, is worth N1 billion, adding, “How did Minister of State for Education acquire that kind of property”.
“Wike should tell Nigerians who pays for his favourite brandy, Louis X111, which cost, at least, $5,000 or N1.4 million a bottle”.
Parker, who challenged the Minister to tell Nigerians about his asset, reminded the Minister of the injunction that “those who live in glass houses should not throw stone”.
