Association Bans Butchers From Using Tyres In Abattoir

sociation Mile III Abattoirs, Port Harcourt, has banned its members from using tyres or plastic to roast meat in the Abattoir.
Chairman of the Association, Mr. John Ozoemene, who said this in an interview during last Thursday sanitation exercise in the area also restated the commitment of the association to more cleaner and friendly environment in the area.
Mr Ozoemene said that no members of the association is allowed to use tyres in the abattoir because of its health implications.
According to him, officials from the state Ministries of Health and Environment always supervise the slaughtering of animals in the area, stressing that no member of the association has been found  wanting as far as the operation of the abattoir is concerned.
He, however, urged for the provision of dumpsite in the area as to check the current indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the area.
The association chairman also commended the government for introducing the Thursday weekly sanitation exercises across markets and Abattoirs in the state, stressing that this situation has created sense of cleanliness among market and abattoir operators in the state.
In his words, “we are prepared to keep this place clean always but we need the support of the government.
