ASEC Proud Of Confed Cup Run
Held to a goalless
draw by AS Real Bamako in Abidjan last Sunday in matchday 5 of the CAF Confederation Cup, ASEC Mimosas have no more chance to progress to the last four as they are trailing second placed AC Léopards by five points with one game remaining in their Group A.
It is a disappointing outcome for ASEC coach Siaka Traoré, who, however, believes they have no reason to be ashamed of their continental campaign.
“Obviously, we are disappointed. This draw against AS Real Bamako dashed our hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals. We faced a very good team which made it difficult for us in this game. It is with great regret that we exit the tournament,” Traoré told Tidesports source.
“If we had handled our home games better, the situation would have been different. But I think that we should not be ashamed of our performance.”
ASEC will face AC Léopards in Dolisie in their final Group stage encounter, hoping to end their campaign on a good note.
“We have nothing more to gain in this tournament. We just want to end our campaign on a high note and will travel to Congo to give it all.”
