We Won’t Allow Our Govs Impeached Again -APC …‘Why Amaechi Impeachment Plot Won’t Succeed’
The All Progressives Congress (APC), has vowed that it will not allow any of its governors to be impeached again.
The party said it will take legal action against the ruling party over the plans to remove some its governors.
Recall that the party agreed to challenge the removal of the former Adamawa State Governor, Admiral Murtala Nyako in court.
The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed told newsmen that some lawmakers in Adamawa State were given a huge amount of money to fast-track the removal of Nyako.
He said “All we can do is to take the matter to the court of public opinion as we have done. This country belongs to all of us; we are going to use every legal and constitutional means available to us to stop this invasion of our Constitution.
“We have in recent times drawn the attention of Nigerians and friends of the country to this menace and the likely consequences.
“We are challenging some of these actions in court. What is more worrisome to us is that even when you win in court, they treat it with levity.
The party also said the use of the military to perform purely civilian or police functions was weakening the military and threatening the overall stability of the nation.
Mohammed said Nyako’s impeachment was a sad commentary on the character of the legislators behind the impeachment.
Reacting to APC’s claims, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Adamu Kamale, challenged anyone who had any evidence of wrongdoing against the House to make such public.
He said “Are they saying the 20 allegations levelled against the former governor are not true?
“If what we are saying that he diverted a huge amount of money belonging to Adamawa State for personal use is untrue, are they also saying that it is not true, that he drafted his family and friends into the affairs of government? Why did the former governor not appear before the panel to defend himself? Let them answer these questions.”
Meanwhile, the National Welfare Officer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dikko Radda has said that the removal of Admiral Murtala Nyako as governor as well as the plan to impeach other APC governors will not deter the party from winning the 2015 elections.
This, he hinged on the belief that Nigerians were eager to vote out the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government in 2015.
Dikko, in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, also insisted that, “There are clearly the hands of the Federal Government in the impeachment saga of APC governors. And what I am trying to say is whatever they will do, the Nigerian people are ready. What they did in Adamawa and got away with, the people of Nasarawa will not allow them.
He enjoined all lovers of Nigeria’s democracy to stand up and “resist any act of impunity by the PDP-led Federal Government.
“If you are talking of impeachment because of corruption, there is no government in Nigeria that was levelled with corruption than this present government. We have seen the aviation scandal, nothing was done. We have also seen the missing $20billion and nobody is saying anything.
“Their plan is to control 24 states before the 2015 elections. But they must know that Nigerian people are tired of the PDP-led government. Nobody wants to continue in the state of insecurity and high level corruption in the country,” the APC official stated.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, has reassured party faithful, the good people of Rivers State and all progressives across the country that the job of the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, remains very much safe.
The party said that “this reassurance becomes necessary in view of the apprehension in some quarters following Wednesday’s confirmation by APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, that Rt. Hon. Amaechi is one of the five APC governors pencilled down by the Presidency to be impeached before the 2015 elections – others being the Governors of Adamawa (already impeached), Nasarawa, Edo and Borno.”
In a statement in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, yesterday, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to Rivers State APC Chairman, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, said, “We are confident that God will not allow the evil machinations of the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to materialise. In the specific case of Rivers State, we are sure that God who has protected Amaechi all these years, will surely see him through to the end of his tenure.”
According to him, “having said this, one thing going for Amaechi is that having spent eight good years as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and four years as the Leader of the Speakers’ Forum in Nigeria, he is in a better position to understand legislative power games. We should also appreciate the fact that apart from politics, most of the members of the House are Amaechi’s colleagues and political associates who are too principled to sell out at this crucial time.”
The APC added that “Amaechi and all the lawmakers in Rivers State have indeed come a long way! These lawmakers and Amaechi share the same political fate. They were all members of PDP and were all suspended from the party and forced to join APC. The lawmakers are all victims of PDP’s brutality and high-handedness.
“Amaechi and the G25 Lawmakers detest evil, greed and politics without principle, which are the hallmarks of Nyesom Wike’s G6 Lawmakers.
“Not to be overlooked is Amaechi’s feats in education, health, agriculture, provision quality roads and making Port Harcourt the World Book Capital. All these have conferred on him an international stature and any mad step to impeach him for any unholy reason will attract the ire of the international community,” the APC noted.
“We make bold to say that Rivers APC lawmakers are not only progressives and God-fearing democrats but, most importantly, true sons of Rivers State who will not join enemies of Rivers State who have ceded our oil wells to Bayelsa, Abia and Akwa Ibom states to cause any confusion in the state.
“These enemies of democracy have demonstrated their hatred for our governor and the state, and it is our duty to ensure that they don’t come in here to scuttle all that Governor Amaechi has achieved for Rivers State and her people,” the party said.
The party, therefore, congratulated “the PDP 25 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who recently declared for APC. By so doing, they have proved and demonstrated that they are true progressives who are resolutely committed towards an egalitarian, virile and vibrant Rivers State.”
