UPTH Seeks Help For Kidney Patient

The authorities of the
Renal Unit of the University of Port Harcourt (UPTH) have appealed to kindhearted individuals, NGOs and government at all levels to come to the aid of Mr Okoro Okechukwu who is suffering from End-stage kidney failure (ESKD).
A statement by the consultant nephrologist of UPTH, Dr Wachukwu C said the patient needs over 40,000 US Dollars to get treatment.
The survival of Okechukwu, 43, who hails from Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State is dependent on Life-Long Maintainance Dailysis or total kidney transplant.
A separate  financial appeal letter signed by the wife of the patient, Mrs Okoro Chinenye said the patient has since September 2013 been kept alive through dialysis as his two kidneys have been badly affected  and that the family has been spending the sum of N648,000 monthly for treatment.
She said, “according to the medical advice, the only solution to save the life of my husband is transplanting of kidney  and one year Anti immune drugs which is put at about N8 million.
Mrs Okoro lamented that the family can no longer afford the money, hence they have resorted to appeal to the general public, government and NGOs to assist and save the life of the patient.
