After a two-week inves
tigation, about 400 Boko Haram suspects detained in Abia State have been released by the State Security Service (SSS).
It was learnt that the 400 suspects had no case to answer, but a few of them would still be under security screening.
Jigawa and Kano states confirmed yesterday that 254 of the over 400 had returned home.
The SSS was said to be interacting with a few who the agency may trace to their states to ascertain that they have legitimate means of livelihood.
But the military was silent on the suspected Boko Haram kingpin, who was allegedly found among the suspects.
According to military sources, all the suspects have been released from the detention facility of the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army. A response from the SSS was still being awaited as at press time.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Umar Kyari, who spoke with our correspondent, said about 225 of the suspects had been released to the state.
Kano State confirmed the release of 29 suspects. The state said some of the 29 indigenes claimed that they were tortured.
A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Alhaji Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, said Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso advised the 29  to continue to pursue legitimate businesses anywhere they found   themselves   lamenting that what the security agents did to the travellers was a clear violation of their fundamental human right.”
The statement said: “The governor, who thanked the Almighty God for making the captives to return home safely, urged them to accept what happened to them as predestined.
The 486 suspects were arrested penultimate Sunday morning by officers and men of the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Aro Ngwa and Imo Gate along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
Governor Theodore Orji, last Saturday, asked all Northern groups to allow security agencies to do their work.
