According to them, despite the fact that there were low patronage of passengers embarking on inter or intra transportation, they were happy driving their various routes with ease, unlike any other period.
A commercial driver plying Port Harcourt to Owerri, Imo State, Chinedu Eze said, “ I feel happy as there is no single hold-up or traffic jam on the roads because of the Moslem holiday. There are no plenty cars on the road, so I now use few hours to drive from Port Harcourt to Owerri and come back to base.”
In his own words, Lucky Udoh said, “ I am very happy that the usual traffic hold-ups within Port Harcourt is not there during the Moslem festival and I will want the Rivers State Government to see that all roads in the state were reconstructed or given a face-lift inorder to ensure free flow of transport.
And on the on-going road projects in the state, let the government also ensure that they are completed ontime and also meet specification so that they will last longer.
Mrs Beatrice Minabo said,” well, I wish this free flow of traffic will continue to enable people get to where ever they want to go on time, but I am sure, the hold-ups will come after this Moslem occasion.
Mrs Minabo, however, also appealed to the authorities to ensure that traffic hold –ups are reduced to the bearest minimum in the state, calling for all hands to be on deck.
A Luxurous bus driver, who only gave his name as Okey said the roads are very free during the Moslem festival and prayed that government should step up efforts to ameliorate the traffic gridlock in the state and country at large.
He attributed the gridlock sometime to some greedy drivers who drove against traffic and the bad roads in the state and called on the government to expediate action in fixing them or construct new ones with packing spaces to ease the traffic.
However, the Muslim Eld-el-fitri celebration is now over and workers are expected to resume work, and traffic gridlocks are also expected on the roads.
